FAQs

What is Carpet Area, Built-Up Area & Super Built Up Area?

Carpet area is generally considered as the usable area in exclusive possession of a person which will also include lavatory block, door jambs etc. It is measured from finished wall to finished wall above the skirting for rooms and above the dado in case of lavatory block. Built-up area can be defined as the carpet area plus the area of the walls. Super-built up area includes the built-up area plus common areas, such as, staircases and lift-rooms.

How can I calculate approximate cement requirement for single store load bearing construction?

You can use our material calculator for estimated cement requirements.

What is 'setting time' of Cement? What are the factors that affect the setting time?

When water is mixed with cement, the paste formed remains plastic for a short time. During this period it is possible to mould it as per requirement. As the reaction between water and cement continues, the paste looses its plasticity and we cannot mould it. This early period in the hardening of Cement is referred as "Setting of Cement". Generally setting time of cement depends upon various factors, such as, the type of cement, presence of certain types of salts, chemicals in sand, percentage of water, availability of ambient temperature etc. In winters, the setting time of cement is longer due to low temperature.

What is heat of hydration? What is its importance?

Whenever we mix water with cement, chemical reaction starts and liberates a considerable quantity of heat. This liberation of heat is called the Heat of Hydration. In case of mass concrete works like Dams, liberated heat cannot dissipate outside and it may lead to cracks in concrete. To overcome this difficulty, it is essential to use low-heat blended cement and follow it up with continuous curing with water.

What is Soundness of Cement and state its significance?

It is very important that after the setting time, cement should not undergo any appreciable change in volume. If it does, it is called unsound cement. This will cause serious difficulty for the durability of structure when such cement is used. The unsoundness of cement is due to the presence of excess lime, high proportion of magnesia content or calcium sulphate content. It is therefore advisable to purchase cement from reputed manufacturers like JK Lakshmi where the manufacturing is done using state-of-the-art equipment and stringent quality control measures.

Is there any relation between Strength and Colour of cement?

No, Colour of cement depends on the raw material used while manufacturing. Colour may vary from factory to factory.

What is meant by Curing of Concrete?

Curing is the name given to the procedures for promoting the hydration of cement. Curing is done to make the concrete mixture stronger and more durable. It is generally done for a minimum of seven days or until concrete reaches 70% of its specified strength. Commencement of curing depends on ambient temperature. Higher the ambient temperature, commence curing earlier.

What is meant by Durability of Concrete?

The concrete structure should continue to perform at it's required strength and service ability during the specified or expected service life. The durability of concrete refers to the extent to which the material is capable of resisting deterioration caused by exposure to service conditions. Generally speaking, concrete is strong and fireproof. Additionally, ordinary structural concrete that is to be exposed to the elements must be watertight and weather-resistant. Concrete that is subject to wear, such as floor slabs and pavements, must be capable of resisting abrasion.

  2. PLUS DURABILITY—MPS technology leading to higher impermeability ensures higher durability of construction.
  3. PLUS FINISH—Finer cement particles lead to better smoothness & finish--Higher Surface Area (minimum 410 SqM/Kg).
  4. PLUS SPEED—Early de-shuttering saves time & ensures a speedy construction process--20 % increase in early strength.
  5. PLUS SURETY –High quality temper proof & moisture resistant bags give correct quantity & factory fresh quality of cement.
  6. PLUS SERVICE—Timely delivery & expert Technical team for on-site guidance.
  7. PLUS ECONOMY-with 5 % more volume per bag of cement, it requires lesser number of bags for construction.
What is the impact of high surface area & high early strength of JK Lakshmi Pro+ Cement on construction works?

Higher surface area with MPS technology gives cohesive mortar/concrete which imparts superior finish. It also gives us more coverage area & hence reduction in cement consumption. Early higher strength helps in early de-shuttering which results in speedy & economical construction.

Does it require extra curing?

It does not require extra curing .We recommend to commence curing as soon as concrete / mortar starts hardening i.e. nail impression should not be visible on concrete/mortar. Please continue the curing process for next 7 days.

How the JK Lakshmi PRO + enhances durability?

With the MPS technology, we get optimum particle size distribution with high strength micro particle .This helps in coating each & every fine &coarse aggregates which results in DENSE & IMPERVIOUS concrete/mortar. This arrests the entry of moisture & attacking gases. In this way RCC becomes corrosion resistant.

Can we use JK Lakshmi PRO + in soil/water having sulphates?

JK Lakshmi PRO + is a medium sulphate resisting cement. We recommend to test the soil & water sample at authorized NABL accredited lab & seek the guidance of JK Lakshmi Guide. They will help you in better way.
